highway system

The vice president shows evidence by giving examples. He goes into how there are more cars on the roads now then there was when the highways were made. He also states that the country should want to better the highways because they are in dire need of fixing. The plan is trying to solve the problems of the old highways and make them a safer place to drive on for everyone.

The Interstate Highway System

The evidence that the vice president presents saying that the highways in America are a problem is by starting off with the history of the highways and talking about how they sort of just happened. They have gotten better over the years, but have never really been made in exactly the right way, because they have always just been used for local traffic, not for the kind of traffic we are experiencing today. The VP plans to make the highway systems better is to make sure there is sufficient funding and plans before constructions happens for the highway system. I think he it stating some very valid points in this speech.

Interstate Highway system

The vice president give a lot of advice as to why the interstate highway system is in need of change. He gives fact like the growing number of cars between the years of 1920 an d 1954. Nixon also talks about the deaths caused by the old highway system in comparison to the war death toll. This put things into perspective for the listener and adds a severity to the problem. Nixon also goes on to talk about the court claims because of the old highway system. Nixon's final point in this argument is the systems poor defence against was and disasters.

The new highway system is said by Nixon to solve the problems of speedy, safe, transcontinental travel. This would help to improve the movement of Americans and to make it more convient. Nixon also appeals to the audience by proposing that each state be the Governor of it's own area. This things in the proposal are used to help sway the audience towards the presidents points.

Highway System

Nixon presents much evidence that the highways are a problem. He states facts and figures, such as deaths because of the road system, that the amount of cars is going way up, and much more. He does a great job stating why the roads are a problem. The plan is supposed to solve the amount of deaths, reduce traffic, reduce travel time, provide parking, and most importantly, build the highways for 10 years into the future instead of the present.

Building the Interstate Highway System

Nixon talks about why the roads were built but now the roads are used for transcontinental movement and more horsepwoer. He states that more people are using the highways which causes more wrecks which is increasing the amount of injuries and deaths on the road. The court system is backed up because of the civil suits from drivers. He plans to solve the problems of safe and speedy travel, intercity communication, farm to market movement and accessing highways. He feels that if the local and State governments work together they can deal with the problem.
