U.S. Marine Corps Recruitment

I believe the creators of this web site chose to frame the "problem" as they did, because it is mostly about young people planning ahead for their future. The issue is seeking a challenge and the opportunity of becoming successful. For those young people, they will learn skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. They will become members with honor, courage and commitment. The tasks are challenging, but by completing them, it is something that no one can take away. This programs helps young people figure out who they are. The service also provides young people with a salary and benefits, as well as, medical and dental insurance. And if the people stay active in the service until retirement then, they get medical insurance throughout life. Basically, the web site is trying to provide younger people with a successful future.

Recruitment

They focus on the challenging aspect of it so that anyone interested in joining any fighting force will see that the Marines are not for just anyone. They want to make sure that anyone who signs up knows that it is more challenging than the other fighting forces like the Army, for example, and because of this, they will surely have success in their future if they join. They want tough people who are really serious about joining to join, and are saying that the Marines are not for quitters.

Marine Corps

I think that they set up the website in such a way as to attract new members, not scare people away. They aimed the recruitment towards people who were having problems finding out who they were and struggling with challenges in their lives. The website only shows the postive outlooks on joining the service and that is to find out more about yourself and prove to yourself that you can overcome challenges that you set your mind to. The site discusses all the health benefits and personal achievements that people gain from joining, yet does not discuss the potential dangers. They briefly talk about how challenging boot camp is but still the site is displayed in away that boot camp will help people solve their problems with challenges and overcome their fears. It appeals to what people want to see, not the truths and dangers of what coould potentially happen if you join.

Marine Corps

I think that the creators of this site wanted to portray the glamorous side of joining the Marines and the benefits that you will receive by joining. They are avoiding the dirtier details of the fighting aspects of the job because they don't want to scare people away from joining. They choose to only show the positive things about the Marines in hopes that more young adults will join.

US Marine Corps Recruitment Response

1. This Web site focuses on the problem of young adults who are "seeking a challenge and the opportunity to become a success." Joining the Marine Corps is presented as a potential solution to that problem. The Marine Corps, however, does not exist merely to provide opportunities for young people; it is a fighting force. Why do you think the creators of this site chose to frame the "problem" as they did?

Interstate System-Tim Fisher

Nixon presents his audience with facts regarding the current state of the American roadways. He states that many of these roadways remain unchanged from the days that they were used as cattle trails or indian trails. And as our country continued to build more and more automobiles, 56 million at that time, a need for more, and more advanced roadways had come along. By putting a 50 billion dollar highway program into effect, President Eisenhower and Nixon hoped that many of the problems that had been plaguing the country due to poor roadways could be solved. Problems such as the annual wastage of billions of hours in detours, and traffic jams. Also they hoped that all the civil suits that clog up the courts could be cleaned out. It was believed that at that time more than half had their origins on highways, roads, and streets.

Building the Interstate

The vice president first evidence he gives that the highways are a problem is the amount of money the budget had been increased to fix the roads and the saying that it still was not enough money to fix the problems completely. the next evidence was the experiment of the gas engine had displaced the mule. Another evidence he gave was the fact that more that half civil courts cases originate on highways, roads, and streets. The plan is intended to solve the problems of speedy, safe, transcontinental; intercity communication; access highways; and farm-to-market movement; metropolitan area congestion; bottlenecks; and parking.
President Nixon is advadent about his point of fixing the highway system to better suit American citizens. He provides evidence that because of the rising population owning cars the highways become too conjested causing horrific accidents. He also points out that given the Americans busy lifestyle it would be in the best interest to fix the highways so everyone could go about their way without wasting fuel and energy in the traffic jams.

Jeremiah Knox: Building the Interstate Highway System

The Vice-President said that the old highway system was built to meet only the needs of quick, local travel. The Vice-President said that the old system was governed by old existing trails that were not meant for long distance or even quick travel. The President feels that an improved highway system will provide speedy, safe and even transcontinental travel. The new highway system would solve the problems of metropolitan area congestion, bottlenecks and parking. The President also feels that the better highway system will improve farm-to-market movement and intercity communications.

Interstate Highway

Nixon says that a new highway is needed because there is a significant increase in the number of cars using them and many deaths are being caused due to the ineffective highways. This problem is intended to solve convience problems and safety problems.

Highway system

President Nixon uses examples to get his point across about how bad the highway systems are. He mentions that there is not enough room on the roads for the population. He continues by adding approximently how much productive time is wasted while peope sit in traffic jams. His plan specificly is trying to solve all of the civil cases in court along with all of the deaths caused by the poor roadways.

Interstate Highway

Richard Nixon used specific examples for why the United States should form a transportation policy. He points out that time has changed and more people use the road system. The roads have become overpopulated and is a hazard to drive in. He said that the roads are used by people with civil suits that clog up not only the road, but also courts. His plan is intended to make the roads more save, more accessable and less congested
