Jeremiah Knox: Building the Interstate Highway System

The Vice-President said that the old highway system was built to meet only the needs of quick, local travel. The Vice-President said that the old system was governed by old existing trails that were not meant for long distance or even quick travel. The President feels that an improved highway system will provide speedy, safe and even transcontinental travel. The new highway system would solve the problems of metropolitan area congestion, bottlenecks and parking. The President also feels that the better highway system will improve farm-to-market movement and intercity communications.
