Jeremiah Knox: United States Recruitment

I think that the Marine Corps formated their website as they did because they knew that it would be more appealing to those seeking information about the Marine Corps. The creators of the website know that the idea of opening opportunities for oneself is much more appealing than pointing out that their main cause is to fight. If people were aware that the actual reason they were there was to fight and possibly die and not improve themselves, then they wouldn't be so quick to enlist. Those who base their decision to enlist just based on this website do not take the entire situation into account. This website seems to act as a "white lie" and somewhat mislead people into enlisting.

I don't really know if you can call their tactics of recruitment as white lies. They simply portray the fine qualities that the Marines possess, hoping that this will be enough for someone to want to join their honorable lifestyle. As for not mentioning the fighting, the Marines merely assume that everyone already knows the risks in joining the marines. Also, posting pictures of death and destruction of a recruiting website isn't the best way to go about getting members to join.
