Life Without Health Insurance
I think Clark adding her own experience makes the article more clear to the readers. It shows the readers that is can happen to anyone and can happen when you don't expect it. If she would just put the stats in the article and not put her own experience in it, the article could become boring to some people and they might believe that they won't get sick without insurance.

I agree completely with what you said in your post. I felt the same way when reading the article, its much easier to relate and believe what Clark is saying because she has provided stats and her own personal experience
